Edited at 10:35 pm Monday to add:
I got a call from ONE of the approximately 77 of y'all who read this blog since I posted it on Sunday. He was kind enough, as nobody else was, to inform me that some of my links weren't working. So, I've fixed them for the cyberlexic [like me] who can't look up at the address bar and see that there is an extra "http://" in there.
Dang it all! I could have sworn I tested all those pesky little buggars before I hit the "publish post" button. Ah well, it's fixed now. Happy clicking, now!
As the Divine Miss M sang so well back in 197something. I have been blessed with some uber-talented and wicked funny friends.
First off, humongous thanks to Matt, the Snot-Nosed StepSon. If you think it's strange to think of a family member as a friend as well as kin...you've never had steps, or been in a dysfunctional family, have you? Let me clue you in, having been a StepMother, Redheaded StepChild, and having come from a dysfunctional family [or three], it's a special treat to have family members who are also friends. Anyhoo, Matt not only gave us a NEW router...he spent several hours connecting it and getting it working!!!
This is my first post from the comfort of the couch, my feet propped up, the laptop literally IN my lap!!! Nah, I ain't happy, not much.
Next, the fabulous LaP had me howling with her rant about the neo hippies and their subsumation of tribal jewlery. Please, if you enjoy readin' the language used the way it's meant to be used, you'll get a kick outta this blog.
I think it was Sunday, although it might have been Saturday, I got an email from Lin that she had gotten from a friend. The Dearly Beloved and I were LOAO. Look for it to turn up later this week on his blog.
Peter directed his readers to a marvelous site on Friday. From there, I was able to find this site, which is their clothing line. They promise new additions every Wednesday. I give you fair warning: if you are a friend or Fam, wear tees, and are on my gift list for 2008, you are gettin' one o' these for your B'day or Christmas this year. Might as well check out the site, bookmark it, and let me know which one you want about a month before the event, or 2 months in the case of Christmas. You've been warned.
I don't think I ever mentioned that we had some special visitors for New Year's Weekend. On second thought...that's a topic better saved for another blog.

Thursday Thoughts
It's been an interesting week. As in that Chinese curse...May You Live in Interesting Times.
Y'all remember last week when I told you the Doc wanted me to move those dang pins so I could clean all around the base where they went into my "poor, baby, pinky" finger? Well, I did. Even though the middle one was stubborn as a Country Mule. The others moved like Doc had squirted WD-40 down in there, but that middle one...it just plumb HURT to move it. But I followed instructions, like a good little patient.
Yesterday, the Dearly Beloved, LaPhlegm and I went to the office so he could pull 'em out. I told him LaP was my personal photographer, but if it was OK, she'd like to pull one of them out. However, when she saw how much trouble he had with the the middle one, she decided not to risk hurting me and just took pics, instead.
Of course, since I was sitting on the edge of the table, he had to tease me about passin' out and fallin' backwards. Dearly Beloved had been teasin' about that very thing while we were waitin' on Doc to make his appearance. But when the chips were down, he came over and stood behind me, just in case. Gawd, I LOVE that man! Since I was anxious and was deep breathin' to stay calm...Doc deadpanned, "Holly, it's not that kind of delivery."
Except for the middle pin, which he removed first, they came out slick as owl snot [how do you know how slick owl snot is?]. And there was NO pain. I even turned my head back around to watch him take the bottom one out.
I told him I wanted to keep them. So he dropped the little sharp pointed, L-shaped thingys into my palm. I told him the Lucious LaPhlegm makes jewelry and I might have her turn one of them into a piece of frippery. The other two, I'm thinkin' of embeddin' or encasin' in hard rubber to use as "Doggie Attention Gettin' Devices". Don't get your Vickies in a Twist! Taps o the snout only, when they aren't listen'.
Or when they won't leave Boo alone. Ben has a bad habit of tryin'to hump her face, and he will NOT listen to reason when so engaged.
Before goin' to the Doc, I had lunch with DossieRe. We hadn't seen each other in a while so we had tons of catchin' up to do. We talked about our kids, husbands, steps, mutual friends, history, shared good food, laughter and a few tears. I was too stuffed from the salad, shared appetizer and my entree' to have dessert, so I just contented myself with some Decaf Cappuccino.
After the Doc, LaPhlegm and I went over to The Greenhouse and shared food and drink. I ordered a Vodka, Chambourd and pineapple concoction and LaP started off with a Harp's. Well, turned out my drink tasted like cough syrup to me, so we traded. Isn't it great when a friend likes what you order when you don't? I had much better luck with my second foray into their drink menu: a Mango Martini...with no gin or vermouth. No, this "Martini" was made with Mango Rum and the Captain. Yummy! And we talked about so many issues, great and small, grand and glorious, divine and mundane.
AS I started writing this I was listening to a Josh Turner Cd I just downloaded onto the computer. If you haven't heard "Your Man", go buy it! So many great tracks. I don't know anything about Turner's background, but I think, like a lot of Southern singers he was influenced by Gospel. This Cd has a tune titled "Me and God" and it's what I like to think of as a Country Folk Gospel song. It's one of those songs you can sing along and feel so comfortable while you're singin'. "Long Black Train"was like that for me, too.
Now, Imogen Heap is playin' so I decide which tracks from her "Speak for Yourself" CD to put on a mix CD. ThenI have to decide which Amy Winehouse to put on the same Chick Music CD.
See, Dearly Beloved and I are leavin' next Tuesday on a road trip. Now, those of you who know me, know that I cannot travel without tunes. When I'm drivin' Mom's car, I pack some of my old cassette tapes to play in her car. I just find it so much easier to drive if I don't have to rely on random radio music.
I gotta go burn some CDs.

Let Me Introduce You
to a very special lady, Miss Claudia.
I met Miss Claudia through my friend Dian, she of the pimpilicious Cadillac. Dian and Miss Claudia are thick as thieves. Dian and I were in the habit of having lunch on a regular basis, and she had been telling me about her friend Claudia. One day she asked if I would mind if Claudia joined us for lunch. Since I had heard all these stories about Miss Claudia, I told Dian I'd love to meet her.
And that's how we became a fairly regular three-some for lunch. Sometimes we go to Ruby's Diner. It's an old fashioned diner {duh} on the town square. We usually have breakfast if we go to Ruby's, even tho we're there at lunchtime. Sometimes we go to a place down the street from where Dian's shop is. Mostly we go to a semi-swanky place called The Greenhouse. A Long Time Ago, it was a florist shop with an attached greenhouse, hence the name. We sit in the bar area so I can smoke and b/c there is a window wall and we can watch the world go by.
Whatever else we may order, I always get the sweet potato fries. They are about the size of fast food fries, but they are made from peeled sweet taters and deep fried 'til they're crispy. Yum-yum.
Sorry for the confusion...I hit the "publish" button when I meant to hit the "save as draft" button.
OK, back to Miss Claudia. She is just as cute as a bug in a rug. And style? Children, she has style for days. She had come into The Greenhouse one day with her sunglasses in her hand. Before she could put them up, Dian wanted her to show them to me. I looked at them. Couldn't help but notice...they were PRADA. Get Back! I told her the devil wears Prada. Well, the Devil and Anderson Cooper. But Miss Claudia has more style than Anderson Cooper.
She's just a little slip of a thing, too. She's not self-conscious about it, but she hates it when little kids point or stare in public. That's just RUDE. Their Mama's ought to teach them manners before they take them out. I agree 100%. My chirrens never did that.
She has a mink jacket that she had the sleeves removed from. It was too bulky to wear when she was driving with the sleeves in. She pulls it off with total panache. On me it would look awkward, on her it looks superb.
Miss Claudia has a birthday next week. I sincerely hope that I live to be her age, and that if I do, I look as good as she does. When she confided her age to me, which you could not pull from me with teams of wild horses, I was dumbfounded. She looks a good 15 - 20 years younger.
I am going to get her present tomorrow. I checked with Dian to make sure she likes candles. She does. While I was at St. David's hospital last July, visiting a sick family member, I dicovered Tyler candles in the gift shop there. To be more specific, I discovered the "High Maintenance" candle that Tyler makes. It has a lovely 'rich' smell.
And let's face it, Miss Claudia is high maintenance. Not as a friend. As a friend, she is a delight. But I betcha, as a wife, she was high maintenance. But I also betcha, any of her husbands {she's a widow} would gladly testify, if we could contact them, that she was more than worth it!
Happy Birthday!

Awww, I've been neglecting y'all...
Well, dangit! I had things to do! 'm talkin' IMPORTANT things!
DossieRe and I had to go shoppin' for one thing. And I had to wash my hair, and get electrolysis, and do my nails! SO THERE!
And, I had to search all over mySpace to find my chirrens' pages. They thought they could hide, but they forgot about "MamaRadar", HAH.
And DossieRe is an Evil influence. First she gets me hooked on doing flip-flops. Then Friday, she drug me, kickin' and screamin' and cussin' a blue streak all the way to Lewisville to some darn fool Quilt store to look at FABRIC. I had no more taken 3 steps in the door, and I saw about $500 worth of stuff I wanted to buy. One of the employees heard my "oohs and ahhs" and asked if it was my first visit. I just looked at her over the top of my specs and said "DUH."
I wound up restraing myself admirably and only bought enough Mermaid fabric for a swirly skirt. Earlier, I had bought material for a CCW {Concealed Carry of a Weapon}vest.
And, While I'm raggin' on Miss DossieRe, she's also gotten me hooked on eBay. That stuff is addictive! Beware.
Has anybody but me heard of Red Friday?
On Fridays you wear Red to show you support for our Troops, wherever they are serving. It's sort of like Spirit Friday when we were in High School, remember? We'd wear our school colors to show our school spirit. Well, this is the same sort of effort. Whether you agree with our military policies or not, the troops don't set policy. They do however deserve all the support we can give them. They work long, hard hours, for a fraction of what they could make in civilian life. Let's show them some appreciation.
Next Tangent: I heard the most asinine, tax-payayer money wasting proposition question the other day in a survey on Fox news. I know they did it to inflame their viewers and boost ratings. The question was: "Should illegal aliens be allowed space in public housing?" DUH! Big Red Truck is about to run over your dumb a$$! 'Nuff said?
Saw Anderson Cooper's pic on a magazine cover the other day, I'm just shallow enough to start watchin' his news show b/c he's so darn purty.
Seems like there was something else I wanted to rant about, but it escapes me now.

Shout Out to GBro
Hey, Old Friend O'Mine. I know that's not the way you spell "gbro" in your comments, but then again I know what it means.
I wanted to thank you publicly for all your comments. If it weren't for you and the Dearly Beloved and the occasional comment from Flo, I wouldn't know anyone was reading. I always enjoy your feedback.
