I hope y'all's one. Mother's Day was as good as mine.
The kids and I had agreed to meet at an IHOP in Southtown, easier that way for my Angel Baby Girl to get to work after breakfast. I only knew of one IHOP in Southtown, so when I passed a billboard listing TWO locations I figured I better call and see which one they were going to. Good thing, too. They were going to the OTHER one. We all saw the humor in the situation.
ABG brought me a bouquet of roses and a tear jerker card. Son, on the other hand brought two cards. One was the sentimental card. The other? It was one of those talking cards. On the front was the line, “Better Parenting Through the Use of Guilt.” Inside was a recording with lines to use, such as, “Thats OK. I'll be fine.” and “I just want YOU yo be happy.” The corker, “I guess I only have myself to blame.” What was really funny was when I showed it to MY Mother, the travel agent for guilt trips.
I had chosen IHOP because I wanted to experience their “Strawberry Festival.” Nomnom. The crepe filled with sweetened cream cheese and topped with same and strawberry sauce, was scrumptiddlyumptious.
After we were full as bed ticks, we went across the street to Borders. I got 4 books, including Porn for Women of a Certain Age. The kids each got 5 books. Some were the same book, they never were good at sharing. One of the books was Pride, Prejudice and Zombies. Son also got Chuck Norris vs Mr. T. and The Zombie Survival Guide. I on the other hand chose The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It's the story of t”the Island of Guernsey during the German Occupation , and of a society as extraordinary as its name.”
After ABG went off to work, Son and I hung out for a while then we took a late lunch over to Mother's since she didn't feel like getting out. She was delighted with the extras I brought her along with her muffletta. We visited and entertained Son with tales from times past. He enjoyed all this family history. While we were there, my grands called to wish me a Happy Mother's Day.
When I got home, I found my niece had sent me a bouquet of daisies on facebook. AND the Dearly Beloved was feeding the dogs. It just don't get no better than that.
