Happy Birthday, Angel Baby Girl

At 12:03 am on Sunday, March 16th my Angel Baby Girl entered this world. And my world was changed forevermore.
Remember the old "Monday's child is...."? Well, my ABG lives up to her billing as a "... Child that's born on the Sabbath Day
is Wise and Kind and Good and Gay."

If she were sitting next to me, she would, most likely, say, "I am not wise, or particularly kind. I try to be good and like Eeyore I'm 'often gloomy'." But as someone who has known the ABG all her life, I would disagree. I won't attempt to extol all her virtues here. Y'all wouldn't believe me, anyway. You would just say, "Oh that's just a Mother's pride talkin' ."

I will say, though, that she has a wicked sense of humor. I don't know where she gets it...I haven't lost any of mine. When we were out shoppin' for her B'day present I noticed a piece of orange string tied around her left wrist. I asked her what it was. She told me that it was her Kaballah bracelet. I was somewhat taken aback. "I didn't know you had developed an interest in that type of spirituality." She gave that sardonic, half laugh she has and explained further, "It's my Home Depot Kaballah bracelet. I look at it to remind myself to go to class and do my homework, so I can get out of Home Depot." Lest you get the wrong impression...she has worked, continuously for Depot since they opened in our town. She started as a cashier and has worked her way up the "food chain" to a position of responsibility. She has worked for Depot in 4 different stores in TX and CA. She just doesn't want to make a lifelong career at Depot. She wants to be a Teacher.

That shopping trip was somewhat frustrating. She wanted a TV stand for her B'day, but she insisted on shopping at Thrift Stores! It's her BIRTHDAY for goodness sake, can't we at least go to Target? So we go to the Habitat for Humanity thrift store. They had one desk that might have worked, but in the end she decided it was too big. Next stop, Dollar General. They didn't have any TV stands. On the way to Target, we made a stop at Bed,Bath and Beyond. That is one of her FAV stores. Surely she'd let me buy her something there. And she did. But not everything I wanted to buy for her. DAHM! She is an independent thang! When we do finally get to Target, she see the TV stand she really wants, but she thinks it's too expensive. She won't let me buy it. "Well which one do you like AND do you think is priced reasonably?" She points at one that is $20 less. "No, ABG. Let me get you the one you REALLY want." She counters with, "OK, but only if you let me pay for 1/2 of it." I check the prices again, just to be sure, and make a counter offer of my own, "Not half, but the $20 difference." And the deal was struck.

Last weekend she wasn't feeling well. She rarely allows me to "do" anything for her, so when I offered to make a little extra of what I was making the Dearly Beloved and I for our Sunday meal and bring it down to her and she agreed to allow me to do that, I realized just how sick she was. I called her from Sonic to tell her I was on my way. She asked for a Banana Pudding Shake. She's been a fool for Banana Pudding for as long as I can remember. "It won't be as good as Dearly Beloved's, but I'll settle."

When I arrived she put the Chicken Pepperoni in the oven, 30 minutes @ 350, what else? And we shared a laugh. I didn't stay long b/c I wanted her to eat and rest, not entertain me with her wit and erudition. But you know what? When you've raised a kid as self-sufficient and independent as she is, it sure was nice to be needed.

Enjoy your day, Angel Baby Girl, you rock my World, always have, always will!

Mama.

She has to be a fabulous woman, because the apple never falls far from the tree. Nor does the nut.

You should be so proud, mama. Kids are such a blessing no matter how old they get.

A job well done.

God bless the mother for raising a Woman who is strong enough, and and has sense enough to be herself, with out being a burden. She is a proud and loving girl.
Happy indeed is the birth of a beautiful person.

I can attest to the fact that she is, indeed, everything you say she is. It's an honor and a pleasure to know and love both of you. Happy birthday, ABG. Love and hugs from Aunt Flo, share them with your brother Sunday.

I've been fortunate enough to watch H's daughter progress from a cute and beautiful, precocious and --dare one say it? -- kinda bratty child. And over the years, she's steadily grown into a warm, intelligent, interesting, and thouroughly worthwhile human being.

It is a genuine pleasure to know her.

...sounds like you raised a good 'un.

Of course, the other family members I've met have been favorites of mine, too.

Sorry I missed you today.
