A Deliciouso Italian Experience

After all that shopping and remodeling on Friday, the Dearly Beloved and I were starving! His 1st wife {I'm the last wife} had thoughtfully given us a gift certificate for Christmas to a lovely Italian restaurant here in town. We decided tonight would be the perfect time to use it.
So it's off to Guiseppe's we go. A little note here about Guiseppe's. It is housed in a Hysterical Landmark house. Upstairs is a B&B. It's just a charming setting. I think it'll be nice to return in the Spring and dine on their patio. Since it was rainy and cold, they weren't even crowded. We had the smoking section to ourselves.
Our server was solicitous, without hovering, which to my way of thinking is the perfect server behavior.
By the time we were half-way through our Antipasto I knew we had to call Charlotte and thank her for that gift certificate. We shared Bruschetta and some stuffed mushrooms. The Bruschetta was not your typical toasted Italian bread with some tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese. No, No. It was Italian bread, with a nice crunchy crust, a thick tomato sauce, sliced tomatoes, crunchy red onions, capers, basil, and fresh Parmesan. Sooo good. Am I gushing? The 'shrooms. stuffed with crab and cheese and bread crumbs and garlic and something else spicy and covered in a mildly spicy creamy sauce that we just HAD to sop up with the crusty, warm bread from the bread basket.
Next came our house salads. We decided to go with the House dressing. It was a good choice. The salads were nothing to rave about, just a mix of iceberg and Romaine, chopped small and tossed with chopped tomatoes. Our server did offer us some fresh ground pepper to top it. But the house dressing was a creamy Italian with Chianti. Not surprising, since the place IS named Guiseppe's, but the dressing itself was just savory.
Now we had quite a large selection of entrees from which to make our choices. I decided against Fettuccini. I LOVE it, but I always order it and I wanted to try something new. I also didn't want chicken. I can make chicken at home. And quite well, I might add. As my recent New Year's guests will attest, I'm sure.
I decided on blackened Salmon in a champagne cream sauce with crab, capers and tomatoes, served over penne. Do I need to tell y'all I was havin' food induced orgasms? My taste buds haven't been that happy since the last time I made fried pies! And I didn't have to do any work.
The dearly beloved had veal. But not just any veal. It was, to hear him tell it, perfectly breaded, then lightly pan fried, then lightly covered with a brandy pepper sauce, served with a side of spaghetti in a marsala sauce.
Dolce was my favorite, Tiramisu. Peggy saw that coming, didn't you?
Their's is a bit different, though, from what I'm used to. Instead of sponge cake, they used pound cake. That substitution made it a little heavier, not worse, just different. Oh, but the Kahlua content was much higher. Yes, indeedy. And the mascarpone content was just right.
The decaf was brewed, the creamer was 1/2 and 1/2, just the way I like it. The Dearly Beloved's hot tea was kept replenished on a regular basis, as was my water. Our server was just perfect. If her boss want to know, her name is Julie.

Dang, now I'm gonna have to drive up there to eat. After all your ice goes away, of course.

Regards,
Rabbit.

Hmmmmm, guess whenever I'm invited to a get together up there, in addition to my baked fudge, I'll have to make you some of my tiramisu .................. I play with it - it's REALLY good if you use RazzMaTazz instead of Kahlua, then spread fresh raspberries throughout .................... of course, I make my genoise cake from scratch, too .................... ;)

Rabbit, call and I'll give you directions and we'll make it a double-date w/ you and SWMBO.

Mair, you better bring homemade tiramisu, now that you've let it be known you CAN make it!

Can I come, too? Dibs on the bedroom cuz I said it first. For infinity.

I don't know how to cook, so yes, I will sacrifice myself. Instead of bringing something, I'll do the quality control checks.

No need to thank me, it's the least I can do.

Giuseppe's sounds glorious. I think I remember where that place is - I remember seeing the al fresco dining and wondering what kind of food thing was going on there. Very cool!
