I wanted to wait and write this after I had slept on the news that Obama is our President – elect. I didn't vote for him. And I'll admit to some trepidation about his administration. I don't mean for this to be a diatribe, or even a complete list of my fears for the coming four years.
I fear for our 2nd Amendment rights. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here, “I don't want to take your guns away. Even if I wanted to, I don't have the votes in Congress.” And yet he has voted for a plethora of gun restrictive bill, both in Illinois and when he was in the Senate. With a Democratic majority in both houses of Congress, he may well gain the votes he doesn't have and THEN where will law abiding gun owners be?
I fear for our Security from terrorist attacks. With a proposed policy of engaging our foes in “dialog” , I cannot help but think this will be seen as a sign of weakness among these hostile Nation-States and the terrorist groups inside AND outside our borders. Withdrawing troops from Iraq before the Iraqi Army and security forces are able to take over will be a disaster for stability in the region. And there simply are NOT the forces available to send to Afghanistan [how many of you supporters remember THAT part of his plan?] to help cement our gains in that region.
I fear for our economy. With all of his proposed spending on social programs AND the current deficit...it will bankrupt our country. When he fails to persuade Congress to provide the tax cuts and rebates he's promised, how disappointed will his supporters be? I hope he rethinks his economic policies and proposals.
I foresee MUCH backpedaling and whining along the lines of, “Well I couldn't get Congress to support my policies...”
I hope there are enough dissenters in Congress to forestall any of his disastrous economic policies.
Now, I've had my say and will be quiet on the subject until he actually takes office and performs his duties.

The fortunate part is that the dems didn't get a super majority in the Senate. If the 45 remaining 'pubs can hold the line for two years, perhaps we can regain seats in Congress to balance power and keeps the worse dem initiatives in check.
Good luck for the Republicans to regain anything. We've already had two years of a do nothing Congress and the voters decided to send the bums back. Right now there is such a bad case of Bush derangement syndrome in this country....I don't see the Republicans retaking anything for a long time.
The next 4 years are going to be very scary
