I have neither comment moderation nor word verification enabled on my comments.
Perhaps it's because my readership is so low, or I just have natural troll repellent, but in my almost year and a half of blogging I've only been spammed a couple of times and only trolled a couple of times.
I can understand the urge to filter comments, pre- posting, but what I CANNOT understand is those bloggers, and you know who you are, who feel the need to have BOTH! It's so easy to delete a comment you find offensive or inflammatory, WHY do you need both?
I don't think this post will actually CHANGE any one's mind, I just wanted to vent this morning. Blame it on my mood.

Well, since I've just started a blog, I don't many comments at all. But I do have moderation turned on (I didn't know I could turn verification off.) I have family and friends reading and I just don't want to take a chance on my Grandson or Granddaughter seeing something I wouldn't approve.
Crucis, if you'll look at the dashboard, the option to turn off word verification is under the Settings tab, then the messages tab.
Turning it off is right under the option for comment moderation.
Without word verification, you could be deleting 100s of message a day of spam. BTDT. If word verification is on, then you only have to delete improper stuff.
