Home Invasion by Drunken Priest !!!

And with that bit of PURPLE prose, Peter's worst fears are realized!

Nah, seriously, I can't remember enjoyin' a visit more that that of our friend Peter, the soon-to-be-American! He started out as a friend of the Dearly Beloved's, but I claim him as one of my friends now, too.
I had intended to write this post much sooner, but what with bein' down in Killeen last week and then gettin' sidetracked I've put it off.

Peter arrived on Saturday, the 12th. He had been out to New Mexico for the Memorial for Col. Jeff Cooper. There are numerous books and Internet references by and about the Colonel. I will not attempt to attempt to improve or expand on what has been written by those more knowledgeable and talented than myself. Peter generously shared his personal experiences of the Memorial with us.

I had known Peter was from South Africa, but he told us of some of his experiences there. The man has some hair-raising tales. I have a newly found respect for this man as a brave and sensible individual.

He also entertained us with extremely amusing stories about two Labs he has known and loved. Ben, our Lab, made fast friends with him. Tipper Sharpton, kept trying to climb into his lap and chew on his beard. Y'all know, typical undisciplined puppy stuff. I have got to start workin' on his manners! Sorry, again, Peter. Boo, ever the sweet girl, would sidle up for a rub and and was rewarded for her polite approach. Then, being Boo, she'd curl up and ignore the hub-bub and take a nap.

He also revealed another talent. He is a computer GENIUS! He sat down and cleaned up a bunch { 6000 temp files}of junk on our computer, loaded a Norton program I didn't even know existed, and a Wunderbar new word processing program. We are just thrilled!

And, he's written two novels! The man has so many talents, I am just in awe! Am I gushin'? I don't mean to gush, really...it's just that we had such a thoroughly good time. Well, except for the times he and the Dearly Beloved would go off into the minutiae of guns and loads of ammo...but that's was OK, too. I'd just go off to the store for last minute supplies for dinner.

Oh yeah, what report on a visit would be complete w/o a report on the FOOD? We had City Steak. Have I told y'all about City Steak? Pan fry either round steak, or cube steak in just enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan. Then w/o getting rid of the oil, add 3-5 cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup. Depends on how much meat you cooked, and how much you like gravy. Then add one less can of water for the cans of soup. And stir the steak back in and let it simmer, stirring often until the steak is fork tender. Just before serving, add sour cream. 8-16 ounces depending on how much you like sour cream.
Serve over rice, noodles, or potatoes.
We had it with green beans with just a touch of bacon grease for flavor. And of course I made Yeast rolls, and had butter, b/c at my table it's a sin to serve Yeast rolls w/ anything but butter.
Since it was the DB's birthday, we had a Blackberry Cobbler for dessert, with BlueBell Homemade Vanilla for dessert.

Peter refused offers of further hospitality. I'd have kept him here for a week if I could have. He wouldn't even let me make breakfast. And LawDog or my Chirrens will tell you I make a mean breakfast. Biscuits, gravy, with or without sausage, eggs, bacon.... but no. He said he needed to get home.

Well, there's always next time to clog his arteries w/ biscuits and gravy.

HA! Trying to ruin my bad reputation, are you? :-)

Many thanks for the great hospitality, Holly love. I look forward to my next visit. Now, if I can just shed the weight I gained on this last one . . . ;-)

"...if I can just shed the weight I gained..."

Yeah, she'll do that to ya, but it is so worth it!

Any excitement in Killeen, other than the drive, Holly?

Can I come to your house for dinner, if I bring seafood?

Saw in yer profile that you like Max Stalling. Never heard of him till I went to Terlingua the first time a few years ago and he was one of the bands. They played their asses off. Great live band.

DW, you are welcome anytime atall, with or w/o seafood, and feel free to bring the LoyL.

FHB, ain't Terlingua GRAND? I would loave to live out there about 3-4 months/year. Just not in the Summer! One of my fav things is the pyroclastic rock formations...right next to what was formerly ocean floor. That kiind of geographical stuff just blows me away! And the old Indian Rock circles! And have you ever seen Terlingua Creek when she was flowing hard and fast? Oh Jeepers, now that is a sight to behold, if you've also seen the creek bed dry as bleached bones. Flash FLoods in the Desert, one of my Favorite things! The Ocatillo and Resurrection plants and Greasewood bushes, oh my! I could go on and on...
