Today, the tech dug around in my left arm trying to hit that "deep" vein before she gave up, bypassed the big vein in my right arm that the nurse at the ER found easily 2.5 weeks ago, and finally found a vein in my arm.
What's up with this?

I, lime many our age, go through this every six months. When the tech arrives, I point to the spot in my elbow where to stick the needle. Always worked. I've not had any who ignored me when I pointed out the spot.
That said, varying degrees of competency also counts for much.
Ohhhh, yeah . . .
I used to be a blood donor (both whole blood and cells) for many years. As a result, I have scars in both elbows from too many needle insertions (which is one of the reasons that led me to stop donating). They don't look like a druggie's tracks, but still!
So, when I arrived in hospital last week, and the good folks wanted to draw blood, I told them the problems they'd find, and advised them to try other locations. Did they listen? Like Hell they did! After the third attempt, when my outraged elbow was hurting worse than my pre-infarction chest, I called for a supervisor, and told her in my best and most basic colonial English that either they got someone competent to draw the samples they needed, or I'd be inserting the needle in the current operator, in a location that I was fairly sure was frowned upon by the American Medical Association.
Funny how well things went after that . . . :-)
