Back From Vacation...

... only to discover the A/C decided to become partially disabled. Cool air comes out, but not at the volume it SHOULD be producing. It's Cool, you'll notice I said, NOT cold. It's been 85 in the house from noon to 9pm.
I'm just waiting to call American Home Shield.

That happened to us last year and one time since. It turned out the coils in the heat exchanger froze up due to the high humidity. Actually had ice all throughout the coils. Our A/C friend said to just turn it off for a day and allow it to de-ice. We did and it worked. Saved us some $$ for a house call.

You might try that before calling in a service call and get stuck with a bill for a coolant re-charge (frequently a catch-all and often unneeded) or a bill for a new compressor.

Just a suggestion...

Thanks for the tip, Crucis. That was part of the problem. While we were gone last week, there was torrential rain for two days. That's probably when it froze. However, we also needed more coolant.
It was totally worth the $60 service charge. Thanks goodness for American Home Shield.

BTW, if you're ever back up here to KC, drop me a note and come by for a visit. Love to have you and your hubby for supper.

Glad you had a good experience with AHS. My nephew Jeff has had a hell of a time with them on his AC.
